Things to do at Canary Islands:
We choose the Tenerife and the Canary Islands as our spring break spot in 2003 because it was really the only place in Europe during mid-March that would have the temperatures to allow us to go to the beach. Myself and six other Americans where looking for an American-style spring break, we got an experience that was almost there.

The beaches of Tenerife were spectacular. Yes, I will say that they beat any American beaches I have been to including Hawaii! Depending on what side of the island you are one, you can have the huge waves and large scenic weathered rocks at the same time. Basically, all beaches of Tenerife are worth looking at.
Like I mentioned earlier, Tenerife was almost an American-style spring break. The hotel we stayed at included many adults and families. At night time, many of the locals along with the spring breakers mix at night clubs where some play Spanish music and others play American Music. Be careful at the nightclubs, we had seen many times bouncers (security) taking advantage of their power as they through patrons out.

Canary Island adventures:
The group I was with did not to any extreme water sports but there was plenty of this around. We saw opportunities to hang-glide, para-sail, and surf. We did however, go on an underwater dolphin boat ride. We had the option of riding on top of the boat or you could go underneath the water in the lower deck of the boat and observe sea life at their level. There are advertisements in many areas of the city that you are sure to run into. I must note however, that this island and the Canary Islands in general, do not have a commercial feel to them as much as other popular destinations.
Where to stay at the Canary Islands:
We did book ahead and this a a very good idea. Many of the hotels you find advertised online tend to be very adequate, however, we did come across many facilities that seemed to be a little run down and less ideal. Do the research and find something nice.
Canary Islands travel tips:
Be weary of shady individuals late at night. On our walk back from a night club we were approached by pimps and other people that we didn't feel safe interacting with. Police do not seem to be too visible. However, we did not see any crime happening.
